A global famine in 2067 forced humanity to abandon scientific endeavors such as space exploration. Joseph Cooper, a former NASA pilot, is forced to work as a farmer. Cooper notices a gravitational "anomaly" in his daughter Murph's bedroom one day. He deduces it to be a GPS coordinate pattern and arrives at a secret NASA facility led by Professor Brand. Brand informs Cooper that the team is on a covert mission to find an exoplanet capable of supporting life, and that he is working on a gravity equation. He enlists Cooper's assistance in piloting an exploratory spacecraft alongside three other scientists: Romilly, Doyle, and Brand's daughter Amelia.
